Photography at Mayfield Park and Nature Preserve in Austin
Mayfield Park and Nature Preserve is a public park in Travis County, Texas. The park is a popular tourist attraction, as itโs located just 15 minutes from downtown Austin. This historic nature preserve houses a cottage, water lily ponds, and elaborate gardens. However, the peafowl that reside at the park are the main attraction. This page features my Mayfield Park and Nature Preserve photos.
Although Iโve visited the city of Austin several times, Iโve only stopped at Mayfield Park and Nature Preserve once. During my visit, I spent about an hour and a half walking the grounds. I stopped to admire the cottage, lily pad ponds, and colorful gardens throughout the park.
The main reason I decided to visit the park in the first place was to observe the peafowl and enjoy some wildlife photography. While walking around, I encountered several dozen peacocks and peahens. I came across 2 species of these beautiful birds: the India blue peafowl and the black-shoulder peafowl. Luckily, I had my camera with me so I walked away with stunning photos of these marvelous birds before I left.
Support Austin’s Public Parks
In conclusion, Mayfield Park and Nature Preserve is a wonderful place for a quick stroll. People visit the park to admire the lily pad ponds and vibrant gardens found there. However, the peafowl that reside at the park are the main attraction. These magnificent birds attract animal lovers and wildlife photographers from all over.
Even though I created this page to showcase my Mayfield Park and Nature Preserve photos, I canโt forget to mention how important it is to preserve Austinโs public parks. The Austin Parks Foundation offers dozens of volunteer opportunities throughout the year, including picking up trash at local parks.
