Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge is located in Commerce City, about 30 minutes from downtown Denver. Individuals visit the refuge to enjoy various outdoor activities, like archery, fishing, and hiking. However, the refuge is most famous for its abundance of wildlife.
Eleven Mile State Park is located within the Rocky Mountains, about an hour and a half from Colorado Springs. As its name suggests, the park rests 11 miles from the town of Lake George. The Elevenmile Canyon Reservoir runs through the park, providing countless fishing opportunities. In addition, people visit this state park to enjoy a wide range of activities, including camping, hiking, kayaking, and photography.
The Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center is located in Divide, approximately 40 minutes from Colorado Springs. The wildlife center’s mission is to educate the public about the importance of conservation, specifically for coyotes, foxes, and wolves. One of the main ways the center educates the public is through the standard tour.
Pawnee National Grassland is an excellent place for photography in the Eastern Plains of Colorado. The national grassland is in Ault, which is approximately 2 hours from downtown Denver. Although the Pawnee Buttes are the main attraction at the grassland, there are innumerable opportunities for nature photography.
